Abstract:

Pulsed laser irradiation produces luminescent carbon dots from toluene molecules in liquid medium. We examined influence of laser pulse duration on the rate of synthesis, optical properties and chemical composition of resulting carbon dots. Increase of synthesis rate with longer pulse duration demonstrates that synthesis is mediated by plasma formed through laser breakdown in medium.
