      <abstract xml:lang="en">
        <p>The mathematical model of α -&gt; γ transformation has been developed using the analysis of austenite growth mechanisms in the ferrite phase and the pearlite colonies accordingly. The model takes into consideration the peculiarities of austenite nucleation and growth within the initial microstructure of low and mediate carbon steels. Empirical parameters of the model are determined using available experimental data on the austenitization kinetics in steels of various compositions.</p>
